The JLD'A, a family story...
Built in Concarneau in 1947 at the Donnart shipyard, formerly based in Lorient, the Jld'a is an authentic Breton tuna boat that long plied the Bay of Biscay for tuna fishing and the Mauritanian coasts for lobster fishing.
Having arrived in Toulon from Etel in the early 1970s, it was acquired by its owner and his family in 1976. For nearly ten years, they dedicated their time and energy to restoring it and adapting it to accommodate passengers.
Since 1986, every summer the Jld'a has been revealing the most beautiful landscapes of the Var coast, departing from the port of Toulon. More than just a boat, it is a family story, a living heritage, and a place of sharing where one takes the time to enjoy the sea.
A story in its very name
The name Jld'a is also steeped in history. It first refers to the original name of the boat, Jean Louise, the Breton nickname for sharks, to which its owner wanted to add a Brazilian touch, in homage to the famous beach of Arpoador, in Rio de Janeiro. In Portuguese, Arpoador literally means "harpooner".
A poetic nod to the boat's former vocation, once a tuna boat, which crisscrossed the Atlantic in search of large fish. The Jld'a thus carries in its name a bit of Brittany, a bit of Brazil, and a lot of maritime history.
Robust and safe, this traditional sailboat offers a smooth and comfortable navigation. Its vast teak deck invites relaxation, sunbathing, naps in the shade of the awning, or simply contemplating the on-board maneuvers.
Inside, the cozy saloon with its piano, library, and lounge area allows family and friends to gather and extend the magic of a day at sea.
Boarding the Jld'a means embarking on a boat full of history, but above all experiencing a simple, authentic, and friendly adventure, in the spirit of the Mediterranean.
